Entopia

Category
Life on Land

People overlook insects as they are small and abundant, and some look terrifying. They are at the bottom of the food chain and are crucial in nutrient recycling and pollination. Singapore’s rapid urbanisation has led to the loss of 40% of our natural biodiversity. Native butterflies, followed by native bees, experience the highest rate of extinction. Entopia is an insect garden that seeks to educate primary school students while offering a haven for travelling insects. The garden hopes to instil awe and curiosity in these small creatures.

My design ethos is rooted in a strong sense of purpose for the users while being environmentally conscious. A meaningful design is intertwined with the surrounding community, adapting to its evolving needs to create relevant and impactful spaces. Being sustainability-driven guides my material exploration and challenges me to think creatively about design strategies that fully utilise the existing environment. I strive to create meaningful environments that harmoniously combine sustainability and functionality to foster a lasting positive impact for the users.
