Drift goes back in time to Seletar, where stilt houses and bamboo boats were home to the Orang Seletar, an indigenous people whose lives moved with the tides. Their name, derived from the Malay word Selat—meaning “Straits”—reflects a life lived in harmony with the sea.
Inspired by this symbiotic relationship between the Orang Seletar and the sea, Drift is a retreat, drawing visitors to pause, slow down and embrace a restorative pace of life. Rooted in simplicity, the design interweaves rainwater as a medium, offering moments of reflection as guests journey through spaces crafted to foster renewal and letting go.

"Architecture is about people." — Francis Kéré. I often wonder about the permanence of architecture in a world that is constantly changing—why do buildings remain static while the needs of people and communities evolve so quickly? Fundamentally, I believe that architecture’s value lies not in its structures but in the lives it shapes.
Inspired by works like Shigeru Ban’s Paper House, I am drawn to simplicity in design—architecture that addresses the needs of the overlooked, displaced, and marginalised. Architecture need not be grand or permanent; its value lies in restoring dignity, protection and hope for those in need.
