Project Background & Description

The London Stock Exchange Group(LSEG) Asia Oil Research Team provides fundamental analysis of the various oil markets in Asia (crude oil, gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, etc), including production data from the region’s main refining centres, encompassing refining capacities, utilisation, product output, inventories etc, including China, India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore. Pain points for the team include updating the old Excel files. These was time consuming and the files were crashing frequently resulting in data loss. The Asia Oil Refinery Analytics Project encompassed 2 phases. Phase 1 involved the rebuilding and redesigning of the Excel file, automating the update processes, migrating data from the original file and collecting new data from various sources. Phase 2 involved designing Power BI Reports to display the refinery production data and on the LSEG Workspace terminal in the form of Refinitiv Identification Code (RICs).

These two phases work cohesively together to enable the creation of one consolidated dashboard which presents the refinery data and the analysis from the LSEG analysts, providing valuable insights to clients. This project has been deployed and is being used by analysts in LSEG Asia Oil Research Team.
