b'Encouraging Household Recycling in Older EstatesThe bin would be larger to allow more storage of recyclables. A closed lid with a pedal to shelter recyclables against natural elements can prevent damage to recyclables. A placard would highlight the non-categorical nature of recycling bins, with usage of striking colours to catch residents attention. The recycling bin will be placed at central locations where residents can remember easily. There will be a redesign of information on bins with revised tagline for better clarity of what can and cannot be recycled. Residents can clearly identify recyclables and non-recyclables with the use of green ticks and red crosses. The collection frequency of bins will be included to increase awareness among residents. This information sheet will be placed at eye level on bins to increase noticeability when recycling. Introduction of Recycling BagThe recycling Bag addressed the lack of awareness, education and convenience, targeting The Situational and The Apathetic.Reusable recycling bag for residents to store recyclables in their home before recycling, motivating them to start recycling. The recycling bag would be waterproof to cater to recyclables that need washing before recycling. It would also be brightly coloured blue and contain a recycling logo, similar to the colour on recycling bins, allowing residents to easily identify its purpose. Furthermore, it will also depict clear instructions on how to use and instructions on the recycling process for residents to follow, ensuring correct usage and recycling. A separate brochure would be given, outlining the importance, benefits and impacts of recycling. Individuals are provided with strong reasons on why they should recycle, potentially increasing their motivation to recycle. ConclusionIndividuals living in older HDB estates do not recycle owing to a lack of infrastructure, inconvenience and knowledge towards household recycling. 8 personalities of individuals were identified to explain the recycling behaviour of individuals. Solutions were then proposed to target these personalities to get them to start household recycling and also do it correctly. The solutions include messaging posters and advertisements, a redesign of existing recycling bins and a recycling bag. 7TH PSYCHOLOGY STUDIES 47STUDENT CONFERENCE 2021'
