The article spotlighted the recent debates surrounding the increase in accidents involving elderly drivers in Singapore, with opinions divided on the age limits of driving. While there is no age limit for non-professional drivers in Singapore, those over 65 must undergo medical certification every three years to renew their licenses. 

 

Ms Geetika Gupta, Lecturer for the Diploma in Social Sciences in Gerontology at Temasek Polytechnic, shared that the decision to stop driving may cause feelings of frustration and sadness as it “symbolises a loss of independence and autonomy”.
