
Our Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)
Overview
TP’s scenic campus belies the hive of youthful energy that throbs within it. With a student population of around 14,000, there is a huge amount of creative energy on campus that is unleashed through many student-led activities including arts performances, project displays showcasing the latest innovative ideas, student DJs broadcasting the latest hits, a vibrant sporting culture and entrepreneurial activities by students. TP is a hub of intellectual and creative activities all-year round!
Performing Arts CCAs
Temasek Arts Centre (TAC), the arts and culture wing of TP’s Student Development & Alumni Affairs Department (SDAA), believes in cultivating the arts on campus and in nurturing our student-artists through talent and leadership development, performance opportunities and platforms for artistic expression. All our members are handpicked through a selection process. Through high-quality concerts and productions, our student-artists express their creativity, hone their craft and aspire to be artists creating works in the local and global artistic landscapes.
Successful passing of auditions is necessary for acceptance into the performing arts CCAs. You can register your interest at the annual CCA Fair, scheduled for end-April. Alternatively, please reach out to the relevant Staff Advisor to express your interest and learn more about how to join your desired CCA!
Sports CCAs
Over many years of discipline, diligence and doggedness, many of Temasek Polytechnic’s high performing sports teams have achieved sustained results at the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) and Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Games. They have brought much honour and pride to TP. In addition, TP has a wide range of sports facilities that serve as venues for sports competitions and friendlies. The close proximity to the scenic and idyllic Bedok Reservoir is also an ideal backyard with ample green and blue spaces for our students to be engaged in trail running or water sports activities. Sports in TP will surely provide plenty of excitement and spectacle for athletes, fans and supporters.

Temasek Polytechnic offers our students exciting opportunities for leadership development through our P10 Clubs (Students' Union and 9 Constituent Clubs), CCAs and Interest Groups. Serve, lead and make a positive impact to the student community, and in the process stretch and hone your leadership skills and develop competencies in the non-academic domains, as you create a fun, caring and vibrant campus that you will be proud of.

Temasek Polytechnic Band (TP Band) performs a wide repertoire of concert music that ranges from classical and pop arrangements to movie soundtracks. With a rich blend of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, together with the new string section, their performances bring audiences to the edge of their seats. Under the baton of conductors Mr Tan Beng Wee and Mr Ignatius Wang, they have contributed actively to the vibrant arts scene on and off campus since the establishment of the Polytechnic in 1990.

Temasek Polytechnic Chinese Orchestra performs a wide range of music using well-loved Chinese instruments such as the Guzheng, Erhu and Pipa. It seeks to explore the world of traditional and contemporary Chinese music. The elegant and soulful music presented by TPCO always enchants and enthrals every audience. The orchestra regularly collaborates with other CCAs such as Band and Music Vox, as well as ventures out for public performances and overseas exchange programmes.

Temasek Polytechnic Chorale is a lively community comprising passionate singers. Guided by Resident Conductor Ms Choy Siew Woon, the choir consists of four sections — Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses — united in their love for music. TP Chorale offers students an opportunity to explore the rich world of choral music, from contemporary and classical works to the dramatic flair of musicals. Dedicated to achieving excellence in every endeavour, TP Chorale is a space that nurtures talent, celebrates creativity, and embarks on a journey of growth and discovery.

Temasek Polytechnic Dance Ensemble (TPDE) comprises three main dance genres; Hip Hop, Modern Dance and Breakin’. Modern Dance is a dance form developed from classical ballet in the early 20th century while shedding the classical ballet technique, costume and shoes. Hip Hop is a popular dance style involving energetic and funky street dance. Breakin’ includes a multitude of different floorwork and explosive movements. TPDE's Hip Hop, Modern Dance and Breakin’ are under the tutelage of renowned choreographers Ahmad Kamil, Nikki Chan and Gerald Chan respectively.

The Digital Media & Production Crew (DMPC) is a dynamic, student-led CCA that offers comprehensive technical services for a wide range of events, both on and off campus. We specialise in key production areas such as stage management, lighting design, audio engineering, photography, videography and graphic design, ensuring that every event is brought to life with precision and creativity. Our team collaborates closely with event organisers to execute technical operations, transforming ideas and visions into polished productions.
At DMPC, members are trained in various technical disciplines by industry practitioners, giving them invaluable insights into the latest tools, techniques, and trends in media and production. Through hands-on training and real-world event applications, members refine their skills in a practical and fast-paced environment. DMPC provides a platform for members to build expertise across a variety of productions.

Temasek Polytechnic (TP) Dikir Barat is a vibrant traditional Malay art form involving 15 or more performers, including lead singers who engage in responsorial singing accompanied by Malay percussion. Rooted in poetry and creative lyrics, TP Dikir Barat actively takes part in numerous high profile, poly-wide and external public performances. The group has earned multiple awards at the annual national competitions, such as "Piala Suara Serumpun" (Cluster of Voices Trophy).

Temasek Polytechnic Fusion Percussion (TPFP) is a highly-spirited group of passionate individuals with a deep interest for percussive music. A collective of vibrant, creative and talented drummers come together in an explosive ensemble. Their shows are always exciting and full of energy. Get them to liven up shows and they will deliver the party to your doorstep! They live by their slogan “with a burning passion, we play to the beat of our hearts”. Brazilian Samba forms the cornerstone of TPFP's creative rhythms, such as Samba Temasek - a fusion of Brazilian samba and Singapore elements.

Under the esteemed guidance of Mrs Premela Balakrishnan, Director of Rudram Arts, our dedicated dancers seamlessly blend tradition with innovation, captivating audiences both within our school community and on grander stages.
Our journey is marked by remarkable performances at prestigious events, including the Largest Mass Performance of Indian Traditional Folk Arts in Singapore (13 July 2024), setting two new national records.

Temasek Polytechnic Malay Dance Group, also called Kesenian Si Anak Tari (Seni Nak Tari or SNT), takes pride in promoting the arts and providing high-quality traditional and contemporary performances. Founded since the establishment of the polytechnic in 1990, SNT continues to nurture youth student artists and leaders through traditional and contemporary Malay dance movements featuring elaborate costumes and accessories, showcasing the rich Malay heritage of the various styles portrayed.

Temasek Polytechnic Music Vox is a family of musicians, typically made up of vocalists, guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, songwriters, drummers and even producers, who play, record and perform assorted genres including pop, rock and indie of original and cover music. They are often invited to perform for events on and off campus such as Esplanade's "In Youthful Company" and "Homegrown Festival" at OCBC square, having been recognised for their musical synergy and crowd appeal. They have released their EP and LP albums of original music, titled ‘Beginnings’ and 'Full Bloom' respectively, on Spotify and other major streaming platforms.

Temasek Polytechnic Salvo Drums brings to life any stage with their performances using the world’s most ancient instrument – the drum, specifically, the 24-season drums. Teamwork, with disciplined training, plays a vital role for the drummers in displaying their powerful percussive strokes in choreographed synchronised movements. Salvo Drums has also experimented through a variety of themes to enhance the vibrancy and creativity of its performances, immersing the audience with different experiences.

The String Ensemble performs pieces from a range of genres, from classical to modern pop music. A string instrument’s sound and timbre can greatly vary depending on how it is played, thus this allows for many possibilities when it comes to music arrangement and ways for members to express themselves.

Temasek Polytechnic Teatro, meaning ‘Theatre’ in Spanish, is a vibrant and diverse community of students united by a passion for performance, drama, and creative expression. Over the years, the CCA has expanded its focus beyond traditional theatre, embracing script writing and hands-on roles in prop making, costume design, lighting and sound. Teatro is dedicated to exploring new artistic realms and experimenting with innovative approaches to performance.

Temasek Polytechnic Emcees is a fun and lively community of emcees dedicated to providing hosting services for the student body of Temasek Polytechnic. They collaborate closely with various parties in TP, including the Arts Groups, P10 Clubs and Interest Groups, academic schools and Corporate Communications, to assist with the facilitation of events. From formal events to community service activities and online platforms, TP Emcees have hosted a wide range of events. Additionally, they also work with external event organisers who reach out to them for hosting services. If you feel at ease on stage and love engaging with crowds, come join the TP Emcees family!

In recent years, this popular sport has gained a strong following in Singapore among secondary and tertiary students. Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that was developed for defence while minimising injury for the attacker. Aikido techniques use the attacker’s momentum and turn them into various throws or joint locks.

Competitive archery involves shooting arrows at a target for accuracy over several set distances. The TP Archery Team competes in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) Archery Games and external competitions annually.

Another common and popular racquet sport, badminton requires aerobic stamina, agility, strength, speed and precision. The common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). The TP Badminton Teams (Men & Women) compete in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) and Institute-Varsity Polytechnic (IVP) Badminton Games annually.

Competitive basketball is a popular team sport in which two competing teams of five players play on a rectangle court to try and outscore each other through the basketball hoops at opposing ends. The TP Basketball Teams (Men & Women) compete in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) and Institute-Varsity Polytechnic (IVP) Games annually.

Originating from China, dragon boat racing is a human-powered boat sport. For competitive events, dragon boats are generally rigged with decorative and colorful Chinese dragon heads and tails. In races, there are 20 people in a standard boat, and 10 in a small boat, excluding the steersperson and drummer. The dragon boat races are the highlight of the Freshmen Orientation (Week Zero) activities in our annual Temasek Polytechnic Regatta. The TP Dragon Boat Teams (Men & Women) compete in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) Dragon Boat Race and external competitions annually.

Field hockey is played on natural grass and artificial turf with a small, hard ball. The game is popular in numerous parts of the world, particularly in Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. In Singapore, the sport is very well supported at the secondary and tertiary levels. The TP Hockey Teams (Men & Women) compete in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) Hockey Games annually.

Developed in Scandinavia in the 1970s, floorball is a fast-paced sport played indoors with ’plastic’ sticks and a ball. Playing the stick above the waist is also against the rules, making it a relatively safe sport. Each game comprises three periods of 15 minutes and involves five players and a goalkeeper with rotating substitutions. The TP Floorball Teams (Men & Women) compete in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) and Institute-Varsity Polytechnic (IVP) Floorball Games annually.

Handball is a team sport in which two teams of six outcourt players and one goalkeeper pass the ball around with the objective of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. The game consists of two halves of 30 minutes each and the team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. The TP Handball Team (Men) competes in external competitions annually.

A pair of skates is portable, versatile and can be used to skate on any hard surface. Inline skating allows freedom of movement and allows the skater to maneuver the body to perform skating movements and tricks. The sport improves balance, and strengthens the upper and lower body muscles.

CCA Staff Advisor: Ms Celine Clare Lim
Judo is a combat martial art founded in Japan and has evolved into an Olympic sport. Two judo practitioners, also known as Judoka, will step into a combat ring with the objective of throwing or taking down the opponent, immobilise an opponent with a pin or force an opponent into submission with a choke or joint lock. The TP Judo Team competes in external competitions annually.

Karate is a martial art developed in Japan under the influence of Chinese Kung Fu. A karate practitioner is called a karateka and the aim is to master the art of punching, kicking, knee strikes, elbow strikes and open-hand techniques such as knife-hands, palm-heel hands and spear hands. The TP Karate Team competes in external competitions annually.

Kayak racing is a water sport growing in popularity. The first kayaks were made of driftwood and animal skins by the natives of Asia and North America. Modern kayaks are made of metal, fiberglass and rubber, making them stronger, more durable and portable. The TP Kayak Racing Team competes in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) Canoe Sprints and external competitions annually.

Lifesaving is a unique sport, where the skills are developed primarily for humanitarian purposes and applied for competition. The sport provides a platform for lifeguards to come together to develop their skills in drowning prevention and attending to water-related injuries. It involves a myriad of simulated scenarios such as swimming to a submerged manikin, bringing the manikin to the surface and swimming to the edge of the pool. To get involved in the sport, a person needs a Bronze Medallion certification.

The mind sport is a board game of strategy for two players. As opposed to physical exercise, the competition is based on strategy and endgame methods. The common board games played in TP are Xiangqi and International Chess. The TP Mind Sports Team participates in external competitions annually.

Netball is a popular ball sport played by two teams of seven players each. The objective of the game is for teams to score by shooting into the goal ring. Unique to the game, players are assigned specific roles and move around within the restricted areas on court to maintain or gain possession of the ball. The TP Netball Team competes in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) Games and Institute-Varsity Polytechnic (IVP) Games annually.

Rugby is a demanding and physical sport that calls for players to be tough and resilient. In the traditional 15-a-side format, the goal is to outscore the opposing team by carrying, kicking and passing the ball. In recent years, the 7-a-side version has brought even more action and excitement to the game. Each year, the TP Rugby Team competes in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) Rugby Games (15s). With its high intensity, competitive spirit, and strategic play, rugby is truly a thrilling sport to watch and play.

Silat is an ancient form of martial arts originating from Southeast Asia. It is an impressive performance that combines powerful strikes with intricate joint manipulation techniques. Recently, UNESCO has recognised Silat as an important part of the intangible cultural heritage of the region. The TP Silat team is proud to represent this cherished martial art annually in external competitions, most notably the IVP Silat competition organised by the Singapore Silat Federation, in both the Seni and Tanding categories.

Commonly known in this region as football, the game is estimated to be played by over 250 million players in over 200 countries, making it the world’s most popular sport. TP provides an exciting and unique opportunity for students to engage in sport climbing as a CCA. This indoor form of rock climbing does not require ropes or harnesses, relying instead on the climbers' agility and strength. With guidance from their coaches, students can master the art of bouldering and refine their skills. The TP Sport Climbing Teams (Men & Women) compete annually in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) Sport Climbing (Bouldering) Championship, giving them a chance to showcase their talents and earn well-deserved recognition.

Swimming is the second most popular exercise activity in Singapore and is one of the most popular Olympic sports. It requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. For competition, the swimming events generally consists of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley. Swimming is good for physical health as it burns lots of calories, is easy on the joints, supports your weight, builds muscular strength and endurance. Taekwondo is the oldest Korean martial art and is still included in the Korean military training today. Taekwondo competitions involve poomsae, a set of defined pattern defence and attack techniques, and kyorugi, which involves sparring with an opponent. The TP Taekwondo Team competes in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) Taekwondo Games and external competitions annually.

Tchoukball is an indoor team sport developed in the 1970s that is non-aggressive (non-contact and no intercept of passes) and reduces incidence of injuries while enabling people from all walks of life to enjoy the game. The sport is usually played on an indoor court with a trampoline goal frame at each end. Each team comprises seven players and they can score at both ends of the court. In order to score a point, the ball must be thrown by an attacking player, hit the trampoline goal and bounce outside the goal zone (“D”) without being caught by the defending team.

Touch Football, also known as Touch Rugby, is gaining popularity among young men and women in Singapore. Played with two teams of six players, the game involves players using their hands to touch opponents on any part of the body, clothing or ball, rather than engaging in traditional tackles. The rules are simple and easy to grasp, making it a safe and accessible alternative to more physical contact sports. At TP, Touch Football is exclusively for females, and the team competes annually in the Polytechnic-ITE (POL-ITE) and Institute-Varsity Polytechnic (IVP) Touch Football Games.

A game of Ultimate Frisbee is played by two teams with a flying disc on a field. The objective is to score by catching the disc in the opponent’s end zone. Volleyball is played by two teams of six players, separated by a net. By grounding a ball on the other team's court, each team tries to score points. The ball is usually played with the hands or arms, but players can contact the ball with any part of the body. The Engineering Studies Club (ESC) is the nerve centre of student life in the School of Engineering, and each year, its group of student leaders takes the lead to plan and organise school-wide events for all Engineering students. The Temasek Polytechnic Sports Club (TPSC) is a non-academic Constituent Club that is committed to bringing about a vibrant campus, fostering a healthy lifestyle, and community bonding through a wide array of physical activities. TPSC believes in learning through sports and aims to empower all students through inclusive activities specially curated by the club.
Collaborating with other Constituent clubs, we organised the "TP Walk for Rice 2024", where we featured exciting carnival games and prizes to liven up the mood for both students and the community. We also had a fundraiser, "Sportopia", in collaboration with the TP Campus Care Network to raise funds for students through gamified sports. Along with SENvocates, we also rolled out a service learning event, "SEN Awareness Campaign - TParalympia". We have continued its effort to introduce the world of para-sports to the TP community and public, instilling the value of inclusivity.

Engineering Makers Club (EMC) aims to develop creativity and spark an interest in various areas of engineering among students and student maker coaches, through various hands-on workshops and student-led interest projects that impart essential engineering skills and DIY knowledge to participants. EMC also conducts outreach activities and workshops to the general public and secondary schools to spread awareness and interest in engineering.
To equip members with the necessary skills, training is provided in a wide range of areas such as, but not limited to, laser cutting, 3D modeling and printing, as well as microbit programming. These skills will be helpful in students' project work and even through their internship in their final year.

The Engineering Peer Mentors (EPM) are committed to serving both the school and the community with compassion. The Horticulture and Botany society aims to nuture our students' love for plants and nature, teaching horticulture, the botanical sciences and related areas to our student body and community.
We regularly host workshops and sessions where members can gain hands-on experience and help out in our community garden on campus. As a member, these sessions will allow you to pick up skills such as seed germination, plant propagation and composting. The workshops we organise also cover areas such as terrarium-making, kokedama, microgreens and isopod care.
Additionally, we also offer many opportunities for members to participate in outreach programmes outside of campus to get to know people from various walks of life, under organisations such as the National Parks Board, People's Association and other grassroots organisations.

The Peer Supporters-in-Action (PSiA) aims to equip students with the knowledge about mental health and peer support skills so that anyone can be a supporter to their fellow peers. TP Debates clinched the championship title in the Inter-Polytechnic Debate Championships 2023, hosted our 3rd Charity Championship 2023, and participated in competitions featuring high level debaters.

The Engineering Peer Mentors (EPM) are committed to serving both the school and the community with compassion.
