Module Overview

This module provides participants with exceptional and practical skills in cybersecurity. Students will discover how to protect their own personal computers with firewalls and antivirus software. They will also learn how to set up secure connections through the internet for their homes. Students will also learn to identify if a website or public wifi in a mall or F&B outlet is malicious. Through this module, students will learn the basic skills to manage viruses, worms, malware, spyware, ransomware. In the process of this, the students will be skilled in keeping their personal computer free from infection. The module aims to provide cybersecurity understanding and appreciation to the student. This module will also allow the students to visit the School’s Malware Analysis Centre and the Cyber Range, to be exposed to various technologies in these facilities.

 

This module will be conducted within a duration of 22.5 hours.

What You'll Learn

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

  1.  Identify cybersecurity concepts and malicious viruses such as malware, ransomware etc and the impact of these on their personal computing devices
  2. Describe how to protect their personal computers using firewalls and antivirus software; various encryption schemes and their use for wifi, data protection etc.
  3. Describe how to safely surf the internet from external device such as a hot spot
  4. Describe the psychological make-up of cyber hackers and how to recognise when the attack on an information system takes place

 

Assessment Components
Students will be assessed based on the following:

  1. Assignment 
  2. Mini Project 

 

Completion Criteria
Students are required to:

 

  • Fulfill at least 67% of the attendance and
  • Obtain a pass mark of at least 50% upon completion of the module.
