Module Overview
Can you imagine the ‘mad scientist’ working in the lab, healing broken bones, bad burns, blindness, deafness, heart damage, worn joints, nerve damage, and much, much more? Or constructing the skin from a patient's own cells? Exciting advances in medical biotechnology are set to improve the quality of healthcare you will receive in the future.
This module introduces you to the exciting fields of stem cell, gene therapy and regenerative medicine. You will learn about applications, methodologies and the controversies associated with these areas. Through these sessions, you will also gain an overview of the great potential of stem cell, gene therapy and regenerative medicine. The hands-on sessions will provide you with opportunities to discover interesting aspects of careers in biotechnology and healthcare industry. You can also look forward to interacting with graduates from Diploma in Medical Biotechnology, to find out more about what they do in the laboratory.
