Course Overview

The Animal Behaviour & Enrichment module is part of the Post-Diploma Certificate in Veterinary Care & Health, contributing to the Specialist Diploma in Veterinary Wellness Care. This course is designed for veterinary technicians, professionals in animal-related sectors, and adult learners interested in enhancing their knowledge of animal wellness and rehabilitation.

 

Participants will gain a foundational understanding of companion animal behaviour, learn recognised behaviour modification techniques, and explore environmental enrichment strategies. The course highlights the importance of enrichment in promoting the mental health and well-being of companion animals, providing essential skills for roles in pet care, wildlife sectors, laboratory animal facilities, and animal welfare.

Entry Requirements

 

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

What You'll Learn

This subject covers an introduction to the behavioural enrichment in domestic companion species. Students will study the fundamentals of companion animal behaviour, and learn a variety of behaviour modification methods that are recognized for use. Students will also learn the basics of environmental enrichment in these species and the importance of enrichment in maintenance of mental health and well-being in companion animals.

 

 

Modes of Assessment

 

The assessment would be based on 100% coursework with written & practical tests, case studies, assignments, presentations and projects.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Specialist Diploma in Veterinary Wellness Care.
