Course Overview

The Fundamentals in Special Needs Education course introduces learners to the diverse range of special needs and disabilities encountered in the sector. It provides a strong foundation in understanding special needs education, focusing on essential concepts such as classroom management and intervention development. Graduates can pursue in-demand roles like Teacher Aide, Early Intervention Teacher, Social Work Associate, or Programme Executive in the Special Needs Education and Social Services sectors. This course also supports further advancement into undergraduate programmes or specialist certifications in special education and social work.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

What You'll Learn

This subject provides learners with an introduction to the range of special needs and types of disabilities encountered in the special needs education sector. It equips learners with foundational understanding necessary to build towards higher-order skillsets in the areas of classroom management and the development of interventions for people with special needs.

 

 

Modes of Assessment

 

The assessment would be based on a combination of coursework components such as practical and written tests as well as assisgnments.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Diploma in Psychology (Social Services & Special Needs Education).
