Course Overview
This course covers the classification of industrial wastewater biological treatment, the strategies for meeting trade effluent standards and for resource recovery and the characteristics and treatment methodology for various industries.
It aims to provide participants with the basic knowledge and skills to:
Explain the basic principles of unit operations in Industrial Wastewater Biological Treatment.
Apply the treatment principles to effectively manage wastewater treatment plants of the major local industries.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
Explain the phases of microbial growth
Explain the aerobic suspended-growth treatment processes in the biological treatment of wastewater.
Apply the anaerobic digesters in treating industrial wastewater.
Perform nitrogen and phosphorus removal processes.
Mode of Assessment
Tests / Quizzes – measure participants’ understanding of key concepts and application of concepts learnt for each topic.
Reflection, group discussion/sharing – measure participants’ ability to reflect and apply learning and active participation in discussions.

Participants will receive an electronic Certificate of Completion issued by Temasek Polytechnic upon completion of each MLC.
