What You'll Learn

To be awarded the Diploma, participants are required to complete a total of 5 Modular Certificates (MCs). A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of each MC.

Students, upon completion of the subject Aviation Legislation and Human Factors, can take the CAAS basic knowledge examinations in M09 Human Factors, and M10 Aviation Legislation, which are two of the modules necessary for the qualification of aircraft maintenance licence in Category A, B1 and B2.

The growing local aircraft industry requires aircraft maintenance personnel who are professionally trained. The Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance provides students with the necessary technical, mechanical and academic knowledge required to complement their working experience in aircraft maintenance, repair, overhaul, modification and other aviation-related fields.

Subject Code Subject
EPAE101 Aircraft Maintenance Practices

This subject covers safety practices on aircraft, hangar and workshop facilities, basic tools usage, and interpretation of engineering drawings as well as aviation hardware technology. Students will also be introduced to the fundamental maintenance procedures like disassembly, inspection, repair and assembly techniques as well as processes like riveting, pipes and hoses fabrication and assembly, control cables installation.

EPAE102 Aircraft Materials and Hardware

This subject equips students with the knowledge of the materials and hardware used in the construction, maintenance and repair of aircraft. The content on aircraft materials covers the characteristics, properties and identification of ferrous, non-ferrous metals and alloys such as aluminium, steel and titanium as well as non-metallic composites. The subject also covers corrosion recognition, prevention and control while the content on hardware includes fastening and locking devices, piping and transmission hardware and flexible control cables.

EPDR101 Computer-aided Design

The aim of this subject is to introduce students to three-dimensional models and preparing two-dimensional drawings, using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. General methods of dimensioning according to international and local standards will also be introduced.

The certificate provides students with a broad understanding of aviation human factors, aviation legislation, project management skills and lean processes. Students will be given opportunities to embark on mini-projects to enhance their understanding of the subject knowledge.

Subject Code Subject
EPAE103 Aviation Legislation and Human Factors

The subject provides basic knowledge and understanding of aviation legislation and human factors for technicians and engineers working in Singapore aviation industry. It is also very relevant for students studying for their Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore SAR-66 equivalent modules for their aircraft maintenance licenses. Knowledge of this subject has a significant impact on the safety standards and responsibilities expected of the personnel working in the aviation industry and holders of aircraft maintenance licenses.

EPPM101 Project Management

This subject introduces the important aspects of planning various activities of a project, allocating necessary resources, project costing, and implementing and controlling the progress of a project till completion. A standard Project Management software package will be used in the subject to enhance students’ learning.

EPMF101 Lean Processes

This subject introduces the principles of lean tools and techniques to eliminate waste, manage inventory and improve product flow in a manufacturing organisation. Key concepts such as 6S, just-in-time (JIT), and process management prepare students to work effectively in a manufacturing environment.

After completing this certificate, students will gain fundamental knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and the different constructions and working principles of aircraft gas turbine engines.

Subject Code Subject
EPME101 Thermodynamics

This subject covers basic concepts of thermodynamics, properties of common substances such as water, air and general working fluids, the first law of thermodynamics and its application to both closed and open systems. Topics include the first law of thermodynamics, properties of liquids and vapours, non-flow processes with steam, steady flow processes with steam, properties of perfect gases, and non-flow processes with perfect gases, second law of thermodynamics and application to heat engines.

EPME102 Fluid Mechanics

This subject provides students with fundamental knowledge in applied mechanics of fluids under incompressible viscous flow condition. It covers fluid properties, fluid statics, fluid in motion, governing equations, dimensional analysis, viscous flow through duct, minor losses, multiple-pipe system, drag and lift, and compressible flow.

EPAE104 Gas Turbine Engine

This subject covers basic technical knowledge of aircraft gas turbine engines. Topics include operating principles of gas turbine engines and its’ essential systems (such as fuel system and lubrication system), types of gas turbine engines and effects of atmospheric variations (temperature, density, pressure altitude) on gas turbine engine.

This certificate is designed to equip students with basic knowledge in deriving the aircraft structures. The subjects are infused with fundamental concepts of simple statics, methodology in designing members, airframe structures, their construction methods, principles of aerodynamics and flight controls.

Subject Code Subject
EPME103 Statics and Strength of Materials

The aim of this subject is to equip students with the basic knowledge of statics and methodology for designing members subjected to various loading conditions.

EPAE105 Basic Aerodynamics

This subject focuses on the fundamentals of aerodynamics and the principles of flight and control. Topics covered include physics of the atmosphere, aerodynamics, theory of flight, as well as flight stability and dynamics. Students are also provided with a general understanding of the concepts governing high speed flight.

EPAE106 Airframe Structures

Safe and efficient structures play an important role in aircraft operational safety. This subject emphasises pertinent aspects of airframe construction, and aims to equip students with the relevant structural knowledge for the maintenance and repair of aircraft. The subject will cover the structural and functional aspects of the airframe, including basic aircraft structural loads, detailed description of individual airframe components, their method of construction, usage of aircraft structural manuals, assembly techniques such as riveting, bolting and common methods of surface protection against corrosion. The subject also introduces composite materials and repair for modern aircraft.

The subjects covered in this certification provide fundamental knowledge in electrical, instruments and computers that control flight and engine that is relevant to aerospace avionic systems.

Subject Code Subject
EPAE107 Electrical Fundamentals

This subject provides the students with broad-based knowledge in electrical theories so that they will have a good grasp of the fundamentals of electricity. Topics covered include electron theory, voltage and current sources, different circuit concepts, components, devices and also electrical machines.
