The aim of this course is to: ‘Provide knowledge and skills required to perform first, second and third-party audits of food safety management systems (FSMS) against ISO 22000, in accordance with ISO 19011 (and ISO 22003 including ISO/IEC 17021, as applicable)’.
The course content has been developed to increase delegate knowledge and develop skills for auditing FSMSs to assess compliance, adequacy and effectiveness; to satisfy the training requirements for initial certification as an IRCA Food Safety Auditor.

Knowledge
- Describe the purpose of a FSMS, of FSMS standards, of management system audit and of third-party certification
- Explain the role of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up a FSMS audit in accordance with ISO 19011 (and ISO 22003 including ISO/IEC 17021, where appropriate)
Skills
- Plan, conduct, report and follow up an audit of a FSMS to establish conformity (or otherwise) with ISO 22000 in accordance with ISO 19011 (and ISO 22003 including ISO/IEC 17021, where appropriate)
- Apply the concept of product and process risk to audit findings
The course will NOT cover the requirements of the ISO 22000 standard. Practical activities will be used throughout the course to allow delegates to utilize knowledge of auditing and develop the skills required to audit ISO 22000.
Certification
Participants will be issued with a Certificate of Accomplishment upon meeting 75% of the required course attendance and passed the assessments.
