Course Overview

Introduces participants to the concept of law and to the legal system in Singapore. Participants will learn about the structure of the government and the respective roles of the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary in Singapore. Participants will also be introduced to case reading, legal research and statutory interpretation.

 

 

Objectives

 

This subject aims to provide participants with a basic understanding of the legal system and the structure of government in Singapore, and to introduce them to some basic research and statutory reading skills.

 

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment

 

Coursework: 30%

Examination: 70%

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result  which can count towards the attainment of the Diploma in Legal Executive Studies.
