Course Overview

This subject will provide a multidimensional understanding of the physical, psychological and social changes associated with ageing and how the interplay of these domains influence the quality of life of older adults. Special focus will be given to chronic illnesses and the mental health of older adults, with emphasis on dementia and depression. The importance of public health and health promotion strategies will be discussed.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Specialist Diploma in Gerontology (Community Care Practice).
