At the end of this course, you will be able to:

1. Describe the different types of personal protective equipment (PPE) and their requirements used in the laboratory.

2. Describe the different laboratory biosafety levels (BSLs).

3. Describe the key laboratory features, practices and safety equipment associated with the different BSLs.

4. Differentiate the usage between Biosafety cabinets (BSCs), laminar flow hood and a chemical fume hood.

5. Describe the protection offered by the different BSCs.

6. Outline the proper biosafety practices.

7. Describe the different methods of decontamination.

8. Describe the various types of waste and their proper handling methods.

9. Describe the reporting requirements in the case of an incident, accident and near miss.
